Why resin infusion matters
Most frankincense skincare products use essential oil. Essential oil captures the aromatic compounds from the resin but leaves behind boswellic acids — the compounds most associated with frankincense’s anti-inflammatory and skin-renewing properties. Boswellic acids are not present in essential oil at all. By infusing whole resin directly into the tallow, you get the full range of what frankincense actually contains.

This is the face cream I reach for at the end of the day. Made with small batch rendered beef suet, organic castor oil, and frankincense infused directly from the resin — not from an essential oil. I steep it at very low heat for 12 to 24 hours until the resin fully infuses into the tallow. The result smells like real frankincense, because it is.

Frankincense has been used for skin health for thousands of years. It is anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial, effective for acne and general irritation. It supports skin renewal and helps reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. It also offers natural protection against UVB rays — the type of UV exposure responsible for dark spots, premature aging, and uneven skin tone.

As I’ve gotten older I’ve noticed a real difference using this consistently. My skin feels more hydrated and fine lines have become less prominent. But the reason I use it every night is the scent — frankincense is known to reduce stress and anxiety and encourage calm. It’s become part of how I wind down before bed.

How to use it

Apply a small amount at night before bed. Absorbs cleanly with no greasy residue. A little goes a long way — with everyday use a 2 oz jar lasts 2–3 months.
